Let It Naturally Occur
Let It Naturally Occur
By Daniel Ferguson
We want things to happen. Change. Meeting a lifetime partner. Our mutual friends to be best friends too. We can't force life. What will be, will be; sometimes the beauty of life is letting it naturally unfold.
It's not easy. We want things now, we remain impatient. But can you think of a time when something just happened just because it did, or you met someone without meaning to, who became a great friend. I remember really wanting a girlfriend and I was trying to force relationships: yes you should still go out there and seek, but when I actually met who my girlfriend is now our relationship felt a lot more natural, it just felt right: I didn't need to force anything. Now this wasn't instant, however, I always had that good feeling about her.
Tom and Tim
Tom was seeking a friend similar to him: he had great mates but still felt he needed someone in his life who he could connect with on an even deeper level. He tried networking events, connecting with people who his other mates insisted he would get along with and talking to random strangers. He got a job in a cafe and was enjoying his time working there. He went to the cafe for work, not to find a best mate. A couple months later from when he started a fellow called Tim started working there too. At first Tim was just another work pal, but overtime they realised they really got along. From deep conversations, to career chats, relationship advice and family life talks, the two's bond grew stronger. Now Tom and Tim are best mates, partners in crime. Tom never tried to seek Tim, he just fell into his life.
A Leaf
The picture of the leaf has meaning. Picture yourself on a walk and a leaf gently falls from a tree right onto you. You don't even realise but it follows you home as it sticks to your bag. That leaf is like Tim falling into Tom's life, like my girlfriend falling into mine. Life naturally occurs.
But I'm Impatient!
Waiting for things to happen naturally isn't an easy way of living life. Although, I would argue this isn't my main message. I'm not saying just sit in a field and life will come your way, however, still seek, pave your path and create your journey: but while on this journey, understand that life does naturally happen while you are seeking, try not to force life, but live it and it will feel much more worthwhile.
Do when you feel inspired
I learned this from A Modern Wisdom Podcast with Naval Ravikant. You know when you feel inspired to do something, if you can, do it then. I'm currently sat in a lecture and I felt inspired to write this blog, so I did - while listening and taking small notes of course :). Because when you feel inspired to do something but say, "I'll do it later," how many times do we just forget? This is another form of letting things naturally occur by doing things when they naturally feel right: when you naturally feel inspired. You can't schedule being creative or schedule life really, let it happen when it feels right. I'm sure you'll get more out of it.
