How To Be A Beginner
How To Be A Beginner
Have you ever washed the pots before? Well I hope you have! Picture that sponge you use to remove the dirt from your plates (yes, that yellow and green one). To be a beginner, you have to embrace being one, embrace the fact you don't know it all and you must be a sponge when taking in all the new information and insight you're gaining.
Try and Let Go
As a beginner, it's important to try and let go, specifically letting go of thinking you will be good or know everything straight away. We can have perfectionist tendencies, I experience this myself: that idea of wanting things to go to plan all the time and almost be 'perfect'. To build confidence it's important to embrace mistakes and failure and understand this is part of the journey. Track your progress, for example, by journaling. Let's say you are starting a new job, after your first day write down how it felt, what went well and what you feel you could improve. Going on forwards, do this at the end of every week of that job, you can do this daily if you want, it can just be easier to do it weekly to begin with.
Learning Never Stops
"Learning doesn't stop when you're at the top of the mountain; it's a constant and winding journey that will last an entire lifetime."
Yes you may become an 'expert' in something or become really good at a particular thing, but the journey of learning never stops. Life's always evolving and so are you. Enjoy being a beginner: always.
"A novice has nothing to lose, but everything to gain."
Things Take Time
It's important to know that things take time, especially good things! We ourselves took 9 months to be born! Accept the journey, trust the process and enjoy it. It's okay to make mistakes, this is where you grow. Apple trees take 3-6 years to grow, Harry Kane took 8 years to become England's top goal scorer (his debut was in March 2015 and he achieved this in March 2023) and on average it takes 6 to 12 months to build a house. These examples prove that good things take time, so have patience, believe in yourself and enjoy the journey you are on.
